Turgesh Khaganate

The Turgesh Khaganate was a khaganate in central Asia between 699-766 CE. It was established after winning independence from the Western Turkic Khaganate. They fought with the Umayyads, the Chinese, and the Turks. When they lost the Battle on the Bolchu in 711, the Turgesh fled to Seven-Rivers (or “Jetysu” in Kazakh). In 724, the Turgesh confronted the Umayyads on the famous Day of Thirst. The Turgesh Khaganate protected the Sogdians. Khagan Suluk was the most famous. After the death of Suluk, a civil war took place. In 766, the Karluks ended the khaganate, taking Seven-Rivers.
