It was established after winning independence from the [[vekspernos_tiurciskos_kahanatos|Western Turkic Khaganate]]. They fought with the Umayyads, the Chinese, and the Turks. When they lost the Battle on the Bolchu in 711, the Turgesh fled to [[septyndanu|Seven-Rivers]] (or "Jetysu" in Kazakh). In 724, the Turgesh confronted the Umayyads on the famous Day of Thirst. The Turgesh Khaganate protected the Sogdians. Khagan Suluk was the most famous. After the death of Suluk, a civil war took place. In 766, the Karluks ended the khaganate, taking Seven-Rivers.
